Michael Young, Ph.D., Editorial Board and TWJ 501c3 Board Treasurer

Dr. Michael Young is senior research scientist at the Bureau of Economic Geology (BEG), Jackson School of Geosciences, University of Texas at Austin. He earned his Ph.D. in soil and water science (specializing in soil physics and hydrology) from the University of Arizona. For 10 years, Dr. Young was the associate director for environmental research at BEG, coordinating research programs in a variety of research spanning landscape and groundwater recharge processes, energy/water issues, water quality, and several other areas. Through this work, he identified interdisciplinary research areas that directly affected societal resilience. Dr. Young has authored or co-authored over 90 peer-reviewed journal articles and given 200+ presentations at scholarly meetings. He is the former editor of the Vadose Zone Journal and a fellow of the Geological Society of America and Soil Science Society of America.
